Dr. Sherif Malek – A Return to the Family Doctor

If you have been searching for a family doctor who remembers the meaning of a “family doctor,” your search may just be over.

Dr. Sherif Malek “loves helping people.” He has wonderful memories of how his own family doctor cared for him and would go out of his way to help his patients.

Dr. Malek says that the doctor-patient relationship of years gone by has always “fascinated” him. “You were able to feel comfortable with your family physician,” he quotes, “I want to make my patients feel comfortable and understand that I really care about them. I want them to consider me part of their extended family.”

Malek Medical Center offers continuing care for the patients, which includes wellness checks, treatment of acute and chronic medical conditions, and vaccinations.

Doctor Malek is board certified and re-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with added qualifications in geriatric medicine. He is also Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support certified, and is a member of the American College of Physicians and the Geriatric Society.

He is also affiliated with Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch and is the medical director of “Monmouth Care Center” assisted living facility. The doctor is also a diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Malek earned his medical degree from Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt, and had a rotating internship in Cairo, as well. He then entered the residency program at Staten Island University Hospital in Staten Island, N.Y. where he also did his Fellowship in 1997.

Dr. Malek sees patients from age 18 and up. He is very proud of his office in West Long Branch, where “Everything is up to date.” The modern high-tech medical center features electronic “paperless” medical records- something Dr. Malek is very happy about.

“Keeping records electronically allows the doctor to have all of this patient’s vital information right at his fingertips without having to shuffle papers around. Paper charts get crumpled up, torn, and misplaced,” he says. “That cannot happen with this system. In addition, the system allows for complete privacy and keeps all medical records secure by performing daily backups.”

Dr. Malek’s Medical Center also contains state-of-the-art medical equipment for cardiac and pulmonary testing. He has even included special examining tables specifically designed for handicapped patients, who may not easily be able to get onto a regular examining table.

Malek Medical Center is housed in a Florida-type, one-floor office complex, with various other medical facilities such as physical therapy office. Ultrasound testing and echocardiograms are also available for Dr. Malek’s patients, right in the medical center. Dr Malek wants to attend to all of his patients’ needs, including those for various types of testing; he likes to think of his office as “one-stop shopping.”

Dr. Malek will also suture lacerations, provide wound care, remove skin lesions and certain growths, and perform biopsies in the office as well.

The doctor also assures that his office staff, headed up by his wife Eva, welcomes patients in a pleasant, professional, and friendly manner.

“The patient always comes first,” Dr. Malek said.
